Quotes about the Warriors in the Hawaii papers (feature on Moniz, Salas status for the SJSU game)

HA Note: "Both Salas and Moniz dressed out for practice yesterday morning, although Moniz did not throw and Salas only participated in light warm-ups with the rest of the receivers. Neither participated in 7-on-7 or 11-on-11 drills. Moniz suffered bruised ribs and Salas a sprained foot last week against New Mexico State. Both have been held out of practice all week, but X-rays determined no breaks for either player."

About how they are prepared if Salas and Moniz cannot play against SJSU, Mac said:
"We've been prepared for the next person to step up. Really, it doesn't faze us anymore. Our guys have an attitude that the next guy's a player and will step up and we've been doing that on defense and offensively and on special teams. That's been our philosophy —that the next person will step up." (HA)

About how the injuries to Pollard and Jeramy Bryant have allowed them to get more depth of experience, Mac said:
"That's the positive side of it. Jeramy's missed ball games and Kawika (Ornellas) has been playing well. So Jeramy will come back and work his way back in but it gives us depth at that position and allows us to play five and six defensive backs. Same thing with Royce Pollard. He's back now, and that helps us in Greg's situation. We also have Ryan Henry and Miah (Ostrowski) on the inside. It also allows us to move Kealoha Pilares from the outside to the inside, the way Royce is coming back. It's kind of like a chess match." (HA)

HA Note: "Ostrowski replaces Dustin Blount, who did not practice yesterday and is not making the trip."

About how they will use Pollard if Salas cannot play against SJSU, Ron Lee said:
"Royce will be the first one to go in." (HA)

Rich Miano praised SJSU's passing game, saying that it is:
"the best passing attack we've faced since Boise State. This is a much sterner test in the passing game than the previous two weeks. It's a better quarterback in terms of passing offense; the last two weeks have been more of a running attack." (HA)

About how Kawika Ornellas did a "great job" when Jeramy Bryant was out and they both will play now, Miano said:
"It's going to be one of those deals where they'll each play and we'll see who's playing better and more consistant and that guy will probably finish the game." (HA)

About how Moniz and Salas will be a game-time decision whether or not they play, Mac said:
"(Moniz) will be a game-time decision, same thing for Salas. (Backup Shane Austin) had a great practice. He's an excellent quarterback, and if we need him, I have complete confidence in Shane. Always have." (HSB)

About the status of Moniz, QB coach Nick Rolovich said:
"We'll see what (Moniz) can do tomorrow when we get up there." (HSB)

About how Shane Austin is prepared to play, Rolo said:
"I think he's prepared for this, and I think he senses the opportunity. It's been a long time coming, and if the stars are aligned, he's going to get his chance." (HSB)

About how they need to keep improving, Mac said:
"Just keep getting better and keep playing together and doing their responsibilities. They've gotten a lot better at that and we have to continue to do that." (HSB)

About how he benefits from his experience playing QB in high school and at Oregon State, Mana Silva said:
"I can kind of feel what (quarterbacks) feel and see, and read their eyes and break on the ball." (HSB)

About how Silva is at the top in the WAC and tied for 8th in the country with 5 interceptions, with INTs in both of their previous games, Chris Tormey said:
"His peripheral vision is excellent, has a good feel for route combinations, and probably has a good understanding of what the quarterback's read progression is." (HSB)

About how SJSU will be prepared for the game, Silva said:
"They should be coming out to play and we just need to be a sound defense and eliminate the big plays. Last year we gave up a few right off the bat. They might come out with some tricks and we just have to be disciplined." (HSB)

About how they have a bye week to prepare for UH, Navy head coach (former UH QB and Radford High student) Ken Niumatalolo said:
"With 11 straight weeks (with a game), we definitely needed it. We needed this rest not only physically, but emotionally to kind of take a step back from things." (HSB)
