State game, about 4,000 ahead of the pace for the opener against
Central Arkansas (33,298 attended that game), JD said:
"That puts us in the ballpark, plus or minus, of about 39,000 and,
hopefully, we could hit 40,000 depending upon the weather. Otherwise,
we could be in the mid-30s." (HA)
JD said that his attendance projections are:
"a reality for the record (2-2) we have and how we played in our last
game. Also with Fresno's record (1-3). But our games with Fresno are
always exciting and we expect another one." (HA).
About how Bryant Moniz and Shane Austin will do a good job at QB for
UH, Inoke (who is the #3 QB and hasn't taken any snaps at QB this
season) said:
"I really believe we're in good hands with Moniz and Shane. Not only
do we trust and believe in them, I think they also have that belief in
themselves. (Moniz) has a really good attitude. He has a fire about
him, but it's under control." (HSB)
About having to throw with gloves (to mask the pain) after his moped
accident (his moped was hit by a car, throwing him to asphalt,
resulting in deep scrapes to both palms), Shane Austin said:
"It felt different at first, because I wasn't used to throwing with
gloves. My (passes) were all right, although they weren't exactly the
same. I was a little off. I kind of got used to (the gloves)." (HA)
About entering training camp as the co-#2 QB and being passed by Moniz
in training camp, Austin said:
"I wasn't frustrated at all. If you're going to be frustrated, it's
not going to help you. The thing I try to do is be grateful every day.
I take a moment to thank God for everything. Just being able to play
college football, that's a blessing in itself. I come out with
gratitude every day. It makes it a great day when you're having fun,
no matter where you are on the depth chart." (HA)
About how he made the most of watching practice when he wasn't getting
any practice reps as the #3 or #4 QB, Austin said:
"All of those mental reps pay off. You never know what's going to
happen. You always have to be ready. Now I have the possibility to get
in there." (HSB)
