About scheduling Pac-10 teams instead of other BCS conference teams, JD said:
"we're mostly interested in teams West of the Mississippi but have a strong affinity for the Pac-10. I consider it to be a premier Bowl Championship Series conference. Plus it is a good fit geographically and there are (large numbers) of Pac-10 alumni that live in Hawai'i." (HA)
About playing more games against Washington, JD said:
"We have many alumni in the Northwest, so by extending this series, it will allow us to continue to build our relationships with them. These games will also help us in recruiting — both in the Northwest and with a Pac-10 opponent." (HSB)
HSB Note: "The contract calls for UH to pay Washington $400,000 when the Huskies play in Honolulu. Washington will pay UH the same amount when the Warriors play the return game. There is a $500,000 cancellation fee."
