Cleveland's Defensive Coordinator explains why David Veikune is not playing on defense yet

CT = Chronicle-Telegram

About why Veikune has played on special teams but not defense so far this season, defensive coordinator Rob Ryan said;
"I think the young man's got lots of talent. But comparing him to our other guys, he's very young. And just to put him out there right now wouldn't be fair to him or anybody else. But he's constantly improving." (CT)

About how it is hard to play MLB as a rookie, Ryan said:
"Is he ready to take the reins of being middle linebacker in the National Football League right away - I don't know if any rookie is. That might be a harder position to play than quarterback. Heck, I don't know quarterback, but I'm going to say it's harder." (CT)

"I think the young man's got lots of talent, but comparing him to our other guys, he's very young. Just to put him out there right now wouldn't be fair to him or anybody else. But he's constantly improving. I think his physical play and the way the practice went this week, he's much better. But again, is he ready to take the reins of being middle linebacker in the NFL right away? I don't know if any rookie is. That might be a harder position to play than quarterback. Heck, I don't know quarterback, but I'm going to say it's harder." (Cleveland Plain Dealer)
