"I'll play anywhere except the line. I want to play linebacker." (HA)
About Chizzy Dimude helping them by his play on the scout team, Mac said:
"Chizzy gives us a good look. And he's a pretty good running back." (HA)
HA Note: "The Warriors are allowed to make adjustments — bringing up a player next week, for instance — as long as the travel roster does not exceed 66 players. McMackin kept a promise by bringing along middle linebacker Brashton Satele, who underwent season-ending shoulder surgery two weeks ago. Satele, who was considered to be the Warriors' defensive leader, will serve as a student assistant. He counts against the roster limit."
About how freshman Hogan Rosehill made the travel roster as the backup long-snapper (he doesn't have any other role on special teams), Chris Tormey said:
"You have to have a long-snappe. If something happens to Luke, where he couldn't go, you'd better have someone who can do it. Hogan is there in case of an emergency. And he's pretty good. He's pretty accurate. He puts good spin on the ball." (HA)
About how his high school coach (Ulima Afoa) at Kamehameha Schools-Hawaii had told him that long-snapping could lead to a college opportunity, Rosehill said:
"(Afoa) helped me, and I guess I got pretty good at it." (HA)
HA Note: "In spring training, Rosehill volunteered to compete as the successor to long-snapper Jake Ingram, now with the New England Patriots. His request was ignored in the spring. But during the preseason, he received a chance."
About how he's gotten a chance to long-snap at UH, Rosehill said:
"I guess I proved to them I could snap." (HA)
Not concerned about the tight hamstring Jovonte Taylor suffered yesterday, Mac said:
"Jovonte is a track guy. He always wears an ice bag. That's part of being a track guy. That's part of his accessories." (HA)
About playing a game in Seattle, Leon Wright-Jackson (LWJ is from Pasco, Washington, which is between Seattle and the Washington State campus) said:
"Not too jittery ... it'll calm me down, it'll be like I'm at home." (HSB)
About playing a game in Seattle, Aaron Brown (who was born in Spokane, Washington and moved to Seattle when he was 5 or 6) said:
"I'll definitely be more fired up. I'm going to be a little more nervous. It'll be the first time I'll be playing D-I in front of my family and friends." (HSB)
HSB Note: "Wright-Jackson estimated he'll have 60 family members at the game against the Pac-10 Cougars (0-1), while Brown counted tickets for 20 friends and couldn't even wager how much family would be there."
About recovering from his hamstring injury, Aaron Brown said:
"It's getting better day by day. I've got a couple more days before the game so I'll rest up and get more treatment on it. Hopefully I'll be back to 100 percent by the game." (HSB)
About his familiarity with Washington State, Brown said:
"Every week's circled, but this definitely has an added incentive. I was recruited by them, I've got a lot of history with the coach (Paul Wulff). I lived there. I know some players on the team." (HSB)
HSB Note: "To top it off, Brown's brother Brynsen goes to Eastern Washington and played two years for Wulff. Wright-Jackson said he also knows a few Cougars players, and considers any game he plays in front of family special."
About his respect for Washington State, LWJ said:
"You know, just 'cause they struggle (2-11 overall last year) in the Pac-10, they're still a good team. We learned that last year. They can hit (in a 24-10 UH win). There's big guys, we learned that in '07 when we played (Washington). It's football, so you gotta be prepared to play them." (HSB)
About preparing for Washington State, Brown said:
"They have a lot of power running backs. It's going to be a lot of hard hitting, hard-nosed football. We've been game-planning this whole week for it so we're ready." (HSB)
About making the travel roster for the UNLV trip, Mike Wadsworth (from Las Vegas) said:
"It was my main goal when I came out here, so I'm glad I accomplished that and can help the team and earned a spot on the travel squad." (HSB)
HSB Note: "Wadsworth is a backup safety, but contributes primarily on special teams. His family has moved from Las Vegas to Utah, but he said they'll be in town for next week's game. He hopes to make an impact with the Warriors before going on a two-year LDS mission after this school year. He worked through some jitters in making his college debut last week, and will get a quick lesson on life on the road over the next 11 days."
About how the Warrior vets have helped him, Wadsworth said:
"Everything's coming so fast, I'm trying to ask all the older guys how things work and they've been a big help." (HSB)
About how this is the first road trip for many of their players, Mac said:
"A lot of these guys haven't traveled like this. We're taking a lot of freshmen and young guys. ... The seniors will set an example, they'll set the leadership." (HSB)
About his hope that John Fonoti can play during the road trip, Mac said:
"Fonoti's going to go and get treated and hopefully he'll be ready and if not we'll get him ready for the UNLV game." (HSB)
Praising Washington State's top two RBs, Mac said:
"They've got very good running backs; some fast, physical ones." (HA)
About the possibility that he could be the first RB in Washington State history to lead the team in rushing all four years, Tardy said:
That's a pretty big goal of mine." (HA)
HA Note: "Perhaps the only obstacle, other than injury, that stands in his way is if California transfer James Montgomery supplants him as the top rusher this year."
