Quotes about the Warriors in the Hawaii papers

Happy with their defensive adjustments during the UCA team, Mac said:
"I was happy with our (defensive) adjustments. Very tough adjustment I would've made with a professional football team." (HSB)

About how they didn't do the haka before the UCA game but will do it in the future, Mac said:
"We're saving it for special occasions against certain teams." (HSB)

HSB Note: "I'm of the belief that the ha'a/haka benefits the opponents more than the guys doing it. I've spoken to many people, including UH players, current and former, Polynesian and non, who say it's counterproductive. Some of them say it's culturally inappropriate, too."

About not trying to score at the end of the UCA game when they got the ball at the 2, Mac said:
"It was strategy. I've seen people do that and fumble it and the other team run it back and win." (HSB)

About his game-winning TD catch, Rodney Bradley said:
"I beat him pretty good on the post and Greg put the ball in a good place." (HSB)

"Everything just pretty much slowed down. I came out of my break, I saw the ball and everything slowed down and I got the big eyes so I could see it in and secure the catch and tap two in the back of the end zone." (HSB)

"My grandmother called to congratulate me. I think she saw it online. We don't have time to think about it. We're getting ready for our next game." (HA)

About how their upperclassmen kept their team calm, Bradley said:
"They've been playing at this level, so they know how to come back and I was able to feed off of that." (HSB)

About how he had been bothered by a groin injury but put it behind him during the game, Bradley said:
"I don't want to say I'm a gamer, but you definitely feel a lot different when you go under the lights. It's like a switch turns on. It's like my medicine. All of the injuries and bruises go away. But you do feel it the day after, because I'm feeling it right now." (HA)

About practicing at 10am on Saturday after their game on Friday night, Greg Alexander said:
"If you want to get better, you can't rest. You have to keep working hard." (HA)

About the minor abrasions on his legs, Alexander said:
"Just a little turf burn. We got the win. That's what matters." (HA)

Greg Salas said that the Saturday morning practice:
"should help out. It can't hurt us. That's what you have to do if you want to be good." (HA)

About how he's happy about the move to slot receiver, Salas said:
"As a slot, you're an option on every play. I like it." (HA)

About practicing at 10am on Saturday after their game on Friday night, Rocky Savaiigaea said:
"It was a good win last night. We overcame a good opponent. We want to celebrate. Everybody did a great job, but we've got to move on. Hard work is only going to make you better." (HSB)

HA Note: "Defensive end Elliott Purcell, who was on crutches in the fourth quarter Friday, said he has a "deep contusion" of his left quadriceps. He said he will play against Washington State. Defensive tackle Vaughn Meatoga also said he will be ready. Meatoga yesterday was limping because of a sore right foot."

About the laceration on his right knee he got during the game, Jeramy Bryant said:
"It was on a tackle. The turf just burned it deep. On another tackle, it got burned again." (HA)

About how his knee will probably need a couple of stitches, Bryant said:
"Nothing too bad." (HA)

About the sack he made on UCA's final possession, UH's first sack of the season, Aaron Brown said:
"We needed a big play and Coach called a good play and we executed. The end squeezed down on Blaze (Soares) coming off the end, and it left me free." (HSB)

HSB Note: "But Brown strained his hamstring on the play and was replaced by Corey Paredes. With a similar blitz called, Paredes also drilled Park, knocking the ball loose, and Richard Torres scooped it up. After an official's review, the play was ruled a fumble rather than an incomplete pass, allowing the Warriors to run out the clock."

About the sack and fumble he caused in his only play at LB in the game, Corey Paredes said:
"It was awesome. Thankfully, Coach gave me a chance." (HSB)

HSB Note: "Along with Brown, cornerback Jeramy Bryant also didn't run with the team yesterday due to a deep cut on his right knee. Defensive end Elliott Purcell suffered a bruised thigh in the game, opening the way for redshirt freshman Paipai Falemalu to see extensive time in his debut."

About how he got to play a lot in the season opener, freshman Paipai Falemalu said:
"There were a lot of butterflies going in, but after I took a few reps I got comfortable." (HSB)

HSB Note: "Defensive end John Fonoti (knee) didn't play in the opener and sophomore Liko Satele made his first start, with Alasi Toilolo also getting into the rotation on the right side."

About their young defensive linemen, DL coach Dave Aranda said:
"They fought hard. I thought they played better as the game went on. When the game first started they had some wide eyes. It was good to see them face some adversity and have to focus in and make plays when it counted." (HSB)

About the importance of the open-field-tackling drills that Chris Tormey emphasizes, Mana Silva (who had 10 tackles in the game) said:
"It's evident how key it is to go out there every day and do those drills." (HA)
