More on Washington State pulling out of the 2011 UH game

About Washington State paying the $300k buyout to cancel the game, JD said:
"Even though this wasn't a contract that was done during my tenure, Washington State has notified us they will comply with the buyout terms, so our job now is to find a replacement game." (HSB)

HA Note: "Until the cancellation, UH's 2011 schedule had been complete. The Warriors' non-conference games in 2011 are against Colorado at Aloha Stadium, and Washington and Nevada-Las Vegas on the road."

Unsure if UH can replace Washington State with another BCS conference team, JD said:
"It is not impossible (to find a quality replacement), but it is operating in a short time frame. Most football games are scheduled four to five years out and, now, we're looking at two years." (HA)

About how he feels that the $250k to $300k "buy-out" clauses UH required before he became AD were not big enough to prevent teams from canceling games, JD siad:
"Since I started on the job, we've raised the amount teams will have to pay if they want out." (HA)

HA Note: "UH's contract with Army for games in 2010 through 2019 lists a $500,000 cancellation fee."
