Malcolm Lane will redshirt this season to focus on academics

About redshirting this season so that he can graduate before his finishes playing for UH, Malcolm Lane said:
"This way I can work on graduating while I'm here." (HA)

HA Note: "The move allows him to accumulate enough credits to graduate after the 2010 season."

About Lane redshirting this season to work towards his degree, Mac said:
"We have mutually agreed Malcolm will redshirt during the 2009 season. This will help him work toward a degree." (HA)

HA Note: "Lane reported to training camp Wednesday, but did not participate in the first three practices. Lane, who was the Warriors' starting right wideout last season, said he will not participate in fall camp."

About not participating in fall camp, Lane said:
"I want to take some time off to work on school. This doesn't have anything to do with the team. I love my coaches. I love my teammates. I'll be supporting my team this year. I'll be cheering them on." (HA)
