Warrior Notes 10/15/10 (David Graves is running the scout team offense)
About running the scout team offense this week, David Graves (who had been committed to play QB for Nevada before he switched to UH) said:
"This is a big week, so I'm trying to help the defense any way I can, and at the same time I'm having a lot of fun." (HSA)
HSA Note: "Graves ran a zone-read option similar to Nevada's as a senior at Folsom (Calif.) High School, about a 2-hour drive from Reno. He attended Nevada's summer camp prior to his senior year, winning MVP honors, and was offered a scholarship early that fall."
About how Colin Kaepernick has improved as a passer, Graves said:
"I've been going to all the defensive meetings and watching a lot of film. You have to give it to him, he's worked a lot on (his accuracy). This year it's going to be tough to stop that pass game. ... (The UH defense) made it tough on me, so hopefully that translates to the game." (HSA)
About blocking for Dustin Blount in the Fresno State game for returns of 35 and 38 yards, Graves said:
"That was great, I was fired up." (HSA)
About how he has gotten his punting average up to where he would be second in the WAC if he had enough punts to qualify for the standings, Alex Dunnachie said:
"The last three or four weeks I've hit a groove where I want to be. Get that 45-, 50-yard punt with a good hang time. It's coming together pretty well at the right time of the season." (HSA)
Not worrying if he punts too little to be counted in the individual standings, Dunnachie said:
"I'm not going to be devastated." (HSA)
About punting 5 times in the Fresno State game (4 times in the first half) for a 50.8 yard average, Dunnachie said:
"It was nice to get in the game. But then again it was nice to get a win and watch the second half from the sideline." (HSA)
About how the Fresno State game was the first time they had kicked off to start the game and their defensive stand gave their team momentum, George Daily-Lyles said:
Last week's game marked the first time UH kicked off to open the game, deferring after winning the coin toss, and the defense's stand generated some early momentum.
"The rest of the games we were on the sideline waiting. That way we just get on the field and get to work. I hope Coach puts us out there again, but it's up to him." (HSA)
HSA Note: "In each of the last five games, the Hawaii defense has forced a punt on the opponent's opening possession. Of those drives, only Colorado avoided a three and out to start the game. Nevada's offense has scored on all six of its opening drives, including five touchdowns, and the Pack have yet to trail this season."
