Nevada looks forward to testing their defense against the #1 passing offense in the country
RGJ = Reno Gazette-Journal
Asked if he's looking forward to facing the country's best passing offense, Nevada Defensive Coordinator Andy Buh said:
"Heck yeah. Heck yeah. We're going over there against one of the best offenses in the country and we'll see what we're made of. We'll find out what this defense is all about. We're hungry for the challenge." (RGJ)
About how UH's offense hasn't changed from before, Nevada head coach Chris Ault said:
"They haven't changed. They throw the ball. They're going to throw it 50 times. They've got everything you want offensively." (RGJ)
Mack said that Greg Salas is:
"sort of like a real fast tight end. He gives you that big guy inside. If linebackers are going to match up with him, he can handle that, but he still has the same quickness as the little guys. What he does to make a lot of his yardage is he runs through guys." (RGJ)
Praising Kealoha Pilares for his improvement over the offseason, Mack said:
"He's always been one of our better players, but he really dedicated himself this year as far as the strength program, as far as watching video and he's really turned into a powerful, fast-running athlete." (RGJ)
About how UH's offense is the passing game version of their offense, CB Isaiah Frey said:
"They're kind of like our offense in way, only in the passing game. They're an option passing team. Depending how you align and where you start out, that changes their routes. So it's critical for us to disguise our coverages." (RGJ)
About how they cannot stop UH from completing passes, but they have to limit the long passes and tackle well, Ault said:
"They're allowed to throw it and they're allowed to complete some passes. That's what Hawaii does. When you play Hawaii, you know that. But you have to keep them in front of you, make some plays and get to the ball and create some turnovers." (RGJ)
About how their secondary will be tested by UH, Frey said:
"It's going to be a great test for us. We haven't really faced a team like this the whole year, so we'll see where we're at this week." (RGJ)
Asked if they played down to SJSU's level last week, Colin Kaepernick said:
"I wouldn't necessarily say that. We still put up 600 yards of offense, our defense held them to 13. But we expect more out of ourselves, we expect a better performance." (RGJ)
About their sloppy play lately, including turnovers, penalties, and special teams mistakes, Kaepernick said:
"I would say just attention to details. We have the general picture, we know what we want to do. We just have to pay attention to the little details to play as good as we possibly can." (RGJ)
About how they have to play better than they did against SJSU or UH will beat them, Vai Taua said:
"If we go to Hawaii and play like we just played, we'll be lucky to come home with W." (RGJ)
