Feature article on Colt Brennan and his status with the Redskins

WE = Washington Examiner

WE Note: "It was bad luck. The ball slipped from his hand into a defender's at the goal line. Colt Brennan's day was just wrecked. One errant snap is how the Washington Redskins quarterback measures success amid team OTAs. The third-stringer only receives limited snaps behind Donovan McNabb and Rex Grossman, so impressing a new coaching staff isn't easy."

About how he only gets limited reps so every rep is important, Colt Brennan said:
"I don't get many reps, so you either have great days or bad days out here. If you complete your run of plays, then everything looks great. If you make one or two mistakes, it feels like a bad day. You just try to have as many great days as you can." (WE)

WE Note: "Brennan is still a fan favorite even though he never played a snap in his first two seasons. He spent last year on injured reserve after tearing his labrum and needing his second hip surgery. Calcium deposits made him susceptible to hamstring and groin tears. Brennan has undergone four surgeries, including a knee scope in March."

About how he's finally healthy after being hampered by injury for a long time, Colt said:
"It's been real frustrating the last two years, but I'm finally feeling healthy and normal again." (WE)

WE Note: "Brennan suspected he had a problem during the preseason last year. He took painkiller injections before games and kept playing, mostly to protect his third-string position against unexpected competition from rookie Chase Daniel. After throwing two interceptions in the second game, Brennan returned for the preseason finale only to injure his hip."

About how he played through his injury in their final preseason game last year, Colt said:
"I felt pressure to go out there and push through. You don't tell the media you're hurt, but I was playing beat up. It put my job in jeopardy." (WE)

WE Note: "Certainly, Brennan wondered about his job security over the offseason after the Redskins changed coaches again. He worried Mike Shanahan might turn over the quarterbacks after trading starter Jason Campbell and not re-signing backup Todd Collins. The Redskins traded for Donovan McNabb and signed Rex Grossman. It would have been easy for the 2008 sixth-rounder with no game experience to be the next departure, but Brennan said offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan "put me at ease." "

About how he appreciated Kyle Shanahan's advice to him, Colt said:
"One of the things I really appreciated was [Kyle Shanahan] said, 'We're going to coach you a lot, but I want you to be who you've always been. I don't want you to change your release. That's what made you successful in college.' It was a respect for who I was as a quarterback. I could show them what I've got." (WE)
