Homecoming today for the Warriors from Kauai

HSB Note: "Meatoga and fellow Kauai products Kenny Estes, Jett Jasper and Kamalu Umu will be among the Warriors' travel party of about 150 (including players, coaches and support staff) heading to the Garden Isle this morning. The practice and scrimmage are set to start at 11 a.m. at Vidinha Stadium with an autograph session to follow. Admission is free."

About being able to play in front of all of his family in Kauai, Vaughn Meatoga said:
"My dad tries to make a couple spring practices (on Oahu) and whenever he comes I get real nervous, I want to do good in front of him. It feels good to get the nerves, it reminds me I haven't made anything yet. I'm still learning every day." (HSB)

HSB Note: "While Meatoga and Umu grew up on Kauai, their last memories of Vidinha Stadium involve Pop Warner games. They moved to Oahu before high school, Meatoga enrolling at Kamehameha and Umu at Saint Louis."

About playing in front of his family in Kauai, Umu said:
"It's my first time I get to play back home and in front of my family. They always had to fly to Oahu. Never thought I'd be playing back there. This is Hawaii's team so it's exciting." (HSB)

HSB Note: "Jasper owns quite a bit more history in - and around - Vidinha Stadium. The Jasper family business, JJ's Broiler, is about "2 minutes away," and having his grandparents at today's practice adds flavor to the spring for the junior receiver."

About having his grandparents at today's practice, Jett Jasper said:
"It's going to mean a lot. I played pee wee, Pop Warner, JV and varsity ball there and to go back in college is going to be awesome." (HSB)

Laughing while talking about playing in Kauai, Estes said:
"I would be more stoked if we were at Hanapepe Stadium. That's my home stadium. But it's cool." (HSB)

HSB Note: "The Warriors will hold a normal practice for the first hour before starting the scrimmage. Where last year's initial scrimmage of the spring on Maui marked the team's first shot at full-speed tackling, the Warriors have already ramped up the contact in their last three sessions on campus."

About how Kauai fans will get to see some physical play, Mack said:
"We've had a pretty physical practice so far. They'll be ready for it, and (the Kauai fans) will get to see a lot of action over there." (HSB)

About how the scrimmage will focus on their less established players, Mack said:
"It's almost like a first preseason game. All of our players will play, but we're going to focus on the newcomers." (HSB)
