Quotes from the Wisconsin student newspapers about the game

DC = The Daily Cardinal (Wisconsin's student newspaper)
BH = The Badger Herald (Wisconsin's independent student newspaper)

BH Note: "Looking at almost any college football bowl predictions, experts will tell you the Wisconsin football team is headed to the Outback Bowl for a matchup with Auburn. Assuming they beat Hawaii this Saturday. This assumption should not be taken lightly as the Warriors will be fighting for their bowl lives in Aloha Stadium Saturday."

About how UH has won four straight after being 2-6, Wisconsin head coach Bret Bielema said:
"Well, they were a 2-6 football team that has revived themselves very, very well. They were 2-6 and … regrouped and have played very well offensively and defensively. They have done some really good things in the kicking game. All four of these last games, none of them have really come easy, so they have earned each one of those victories." (BH)

About how UH is playing to be able to go to a bowl game, Bielema said:
"Bottom line, if they win this game they are going to become bowl eligible for a very big bowl themselves." (BH)

BH Note: "Averaging 456.1 yards of total offense, including 348.7 yards through the air, the Badger corners will be tested once again. Exposed through mental mistakes against Northwestern two weeks ago, UW's secondary will have to bounce back fairly quickly. Its first challenge? Stopping junior wide receiver Greg Salas, an offensive dynamo responsible for 103 receptions, 1,559 yards and eight touchdowns this season."

About how their DL has to rush the passer well to help their secondary, Bielema said:
"Our front four has to give pressure to help out our back end." (BH)

About how they worked on fixing their mistakes during their bye week before this game, RB Zach Brown said:
"Just like in the offseason we just know we have to work harder. It was a tough loss, but we are using the bye week time to get better." (BH)

About how they cannot look ahead to their bowl game, Brown said:
"Honestly, we aren't thinking about no bowl game. We are worrying about Hawaii. That is our biggest game and we can't look ahead. We just got to make sure we take care of Hawaii." (BH)

BH Note: "Not to be all business and no fun, Bielema has designated time for the players to relax and see the sites. Perhaps to inspire leadership, he mentioned going to Pearl Harbor."

About how they have to prevent their players from being distracted, Bielema said:
"The hard part for us is, because it is an extended stay, it has similarities to a bowl game. But obviously the game is going to be on us very, very quick. So we told our guys it is about focusing on the details of what we need to do to win Saturday." (BH)

Excited to be able to go to Hawaii, Brown said:
"I am really excited. Growing up, I was never a real big traveler and I never thought I would have a chance to go to Hawaii, so being able to do this is great and I am looking forward to it." (BH)

Calling this game a "business trip", Bielema talked about why they will practice once they get off the airplane:
"I kind of want to set the mode, 'hey, we're going get off that plane, we're hopping on that bus, we're going right to work.' " (DC)

DC Note: "The contest will provide a shot at redemption for Wisconsin's secondary, which struggled mightily in giving up over 350 yards to Northwestern, and has spent the last two weeks with a bad taste in their mouths. Hawaii enters the game with the third-best passing attack in the country, but has failed to produce points, scoring only 23.8 per game."

About facing their second-straight pass-heavy offense, safety Chris Maragos said:
"I think it really puts a type of burden on you that you want to carry for the team. I just think we want to come out there ... with an edge and a chip on our shoulder to get it right." (DC)

Expecting a tough battle with UH's DL, left tackle Gabe Carimi said:
"What this Hawaii team is, they're real dense guys, really thick, heavy and they're going to be hard to move. They do a decent job of pass rushing. I think they're a lot better with their run stop." (DC)

About it is nice they can go to Hawaii but they need to make the win a priority, Carimi said:
"It's supposed to be a special thing that they do for us, but it also has to be prioritized. The main reason why we need to go there is to get a win out of it. They do this to be nice ... but it's always about the win." (DC)
