Quotes from the Las Cruces Sun-News about the UH-NMSU game

LCSN = Las Cruces Sun-News

About flying to Hawaii Friday night and leaving after the game on Saturday, NMSU head coach DeWayne Walker said:
"To me, it all depends how you approach it. Some teams like to go on Thursday and let the players get out and enjoy Hawaii. We gotta go win a football game. We're going to be more business-like than tourists." (LCSN)

About facing UH's offense, LB Jamar Cotton said:
"They usually have the spread offense, that's what their program's based around. We're going to scheme for them the best we can. Get the guys on the field to make the plays. We'll be put in a position to stop them. It's about us executing." (LCSN)

About how they cannot focus on the pass too much or UH will run the ball, Walker said:
"Five in the box, (Hawaii will) run the ball. Six in the box, they want to throw the ball. At times, they caught Utah State with five in the box and they took advantage of what the defense was giving them." (LCSN)

About how their defense is doing okay this year, DE Pierre Fils said:
"We've been pretty good this year, actually. We could always do better, but I think we're doing good so far. We've come together as a new program." (LCSN)

LCSN Note: "Offensively, NMSU hasn't been able to get anything going the last month of the season, unable to score a single offensive touchdown in their last 13 quarters. NMSU is dead-last in the NCAA (No. 120), averaging 232.89 yards-per game while scoring just 13 touchdowns on the season. It's been the passing attack which has struggled most. After going back and forth between quarterbacks Jeff Fleming and Trevor Walls this season, Walker said the team will go with Fleming for the remaining four games on the schedule in hopes of building continuity."

About simplifying their playbook and getting to the basics of their offense, Walker said:
"We gotta start doing what we gotta do and not be the offense of the week. We have to develop some form of consistency." (LCSN)
