"I think the guys were mentally ready to play. They were focused and together. But then it comes back to making those little mistakes. We make some of those young, inexperienced mistakes. But we've got some hope. We got Vaughn Meatoga back, which was nice. We got some guys coming back. Our younger guys are playing better. We gave up three big plays, which is really unacceptable, but it shows you the talent that they had." (UH)
About sophomore QB Bryant Moniz, Mac said:
"If you really prepare yourself and put all your efforts into a ball game, it's an emotional thing. I'm sure he felt a little responsible for the interceptions. It's his fourth college football game. We gained 400 yards and our offense is moving the football so I'm very proud of Bryant. I also can understand why he feels it so deeply, because a great competitor does." (UH)
About junior RB Alex Green, Mac said:
"He's an outstanding running back. We've been waiting for him to be able to block, and he's at that point now. I really think he's playing more than any of the other running backs." (UH)
About junior WR Jovonte Taylor, Mac said:
"He had his career day this weekend. He's finally healthy after the bad ankle, and he's feeling good. It's good to have that speed on the field. It was nice to see him come along, because when we lost Rodney Bradley we were in need of a playmaker." (UH)
About turning the corner after six straight losses, Mac said:
"We went to this Michael Jackson movie this past weekend. The one thing that stood out for us as a football team was the song "Man in the Mirror." You listen to that song and it's exactly like our football team. You've got to look in the mirror at yourself and say its time to change, and do what you're talking about. And we talked about that. Whether you're young or not, you need to take responsibility for your actions. We played six or seven freshman on Saturday. But they are not freshmen anymore. They have got to stand up. Everybody has to stand up. That's what really made sense to me. And I think the players got the message too." (UH)
About this week's opponent, Utah State, Mac said:
"They have a really good Quarterback. He's a guy that can run and throw the football. Their running back is second in the league in running the football. Offensively they have really come along with their schemes. They have competed with the best teams in the league so far this year. They are not the Utah State of old. I felt they had young players last year when we played them, but I think these new coaches really compliment the players because they have good schemes. We have a tough game in front of us. They are a good football team." (UH)
