Quotes about the Warriors in the Hawaii papers (starting RT Letuli is out for the season)

HA Note: "Hawai'i offensive tackle Laupepa Letuli's knee injury is serious enough that he is not expected to play the rest of the football season. But, in a twist, his situation actually could benefit his football career. Letuli appears to be a strong candidate for a medical hardship that will enable him to play as a sixth-year senior in 2010."

HA Note: "He is suffering from an injury to the tendon behind his left kneecap. He has tried several remedies, including an experimental procedure in which his blood was drawn, treated with nutrients, then injected into the injured area. The procedure is intended to strengthen the tendon. Head coach Greg McMackin acknowledged that a sixth year is being explored for Letuli. McMackin said academic and compliance officials will check on the situation."

About how he isn't thinking about Letuli possibly returning next year, Mac said:
"I'm just thinking about this year." (HA)

After growing up with Derek Jeter posters hanging in his room and even wore #2 when playing youth baseball, Mana Silva said about the Yankees recent World Series win:
"We got one in the beginning of the decade, now we're finishing the decade (with a championship)." (HA)

About how the Warriors are the only WAC team that hasn't gotten an INT in WAC play and are last in the conference in turnover margin (139 passes over 5 games without an INT), Mana Silva said:
"It runs through my head a lot. We haven't gotten an interception in a while. They come in bunches, so hopefully this is the week we get one." (HSB)

About how Utah State's offense is similar to Nevada's offense, so facing Nevada last week prepared them for Utah State, Corey Paredes said:
"(Utah State and Nevada are) very similar actually. Their quarterback is an awesome athlete. He has more moves than Kaepernick did, but their speed is comparable. We have to contain him and can't let him break loose. Nevada prepared us for what we're going to see this coming week." (HSB)

About how Richard Torres suited up for yesterday's practice but didn't get on the field for the team periods, Mac said:
"He's got a big heart. I'm not sure (if he will be available on Saturday). He feels it's getting looser, but we'll just have to see." (HSB)

HA Note: "Free safety/nickelback Richard Torres went through light drills yesterday to test his pulled left hamstring. He said he believes he will be ready to play in tomorrow's game."

About how he took more reps with the first team yesterday because R.J. Kiesel-Kauhane missed practice while having his hand fitted for a cast, Corey Paredes said:
"That's how it's been, we're always alternating, so Coach told me just to be ready." (HSB)

HA Note: "Chris Tormey, who coaches the safeties and coordinates special teams, is scheduled to return to Honolulu today after attending his sister's funeral in New York. Tormey departed for New York Wednesday."

About how he told Tormey that he could miss the Utah State game if he wished but how Tormey decided he wanted to return in time to coach this afternoon's walk-through practice, Mac said:
"I told him to do whatever's best for his family, and don't worry about us. But he wants to be here for the game. ... Family is always first. That's what all of our values should be." (HA)

About how he "feels" for Tormey, Rich Miano said that Tormey is:
"part of our family. Family is very important. This is rough." (HA)
