"There are five or six plays in every game that win or lose the football game for you. We had three plays in the first half that cost us dearly…I went home that night after the game and I watched every player on every play in the entire ball game. What I was looking for was if anyone quit, and nobody quit. Everybody played to the end of the ball game; they played through the ball game. Their attitude and their intensity never faltered." (UH)
About how the many problems they have had this season, Mac said:
"People forget we started this season with a brand new defense. We're playing a lot of young players, and young players make mistakes. We're not the same team we started in camp with. We have been beat up, we've been hurt. We lost our middle backer, our QB …we are a team who is fighting through adversity, and we have been all season. But we're not making excuses. I've got a team that's a great bunch of guys that want to stick together. And coaches who are working their tail off. I don't have time to deal with the negative out there. All I care about is my
football team." (UH)
About Bryant Moniz' first career start at UH, Mac said:
"From the naked eye, I thought he did a heck of a job. He should have had about 400 yards even without the dropped balls. What I like about him is his composure, I like his class, and I like his positive attitude and leadership ability. I like his accuracy and the way he delivers the ball. He's got a good crew to work with and they have to gain confidence. In my eyes, that was our first game as an offense." (UH)
Praising their OL, Mac said:
"We gave up one sack and didn't have any penalties in the first half. We're down to our third right tackle. We put a backup offensive guard at tackle, he was nervous, got a couple illegal procedure penalties. He was fighting for his life out there doing everything he could. I thought our line did a better job than the week before." (UH)
Worried about their defense but not their offense, Mac said:
"I think that offensively we'll be ok. Defensively we have to continue to get better. We improved on our running game to the point where we would have played a lot better the week before. We're in a flux there too. We're not going to switch people around, we've just had a lot of injuries and we're trying to hold (it) together." (UH)
About facing Idaho this week, Mac said:
"I've watched the film on Idaho. They are a competitive, strong, smart football team, really playing well at home. We prepare the same way we do for any ball game. This is an important ball game for us. We have to win seven games to go to a bowl game. So were both playing to get
to bowl games." (UH)
