MN Note :"Once the fourth-string quarterback --- he even practiced on the kickoff team --- Moniz has quietly and steadily made his way up the depth chart because of injuries. The former walk-on will make his first start against Fresno State on Saturday night at Aloha Stadium in a Western Athletic Conference matchup."
About going from fourth team to starter for UH, Bryant Moniz said:
"It's a crazy situation. 'I'm kind of just going through the flow like it ain't no thing, but it's a pretty big deal." (MN)
About how Moniz has great potential, Mac said:
"The upside on him is astronomical. I think he could be a great quarterback if he just gets his chance. And you know what? He's getting his chance now, and we're going with him. 'We've always in the back our of mind wondered how far he can go. Now he's going to get the reps, and we're going to find out." (MN)
About how he wants Fresno State to run against UH, Mac said:
"We want them to run the football against us. That's the first thing we're going to do is try to control their running game. They've got a great running game." (MN)
About how they lost 3 close games against ranked teams, Fresno State coach Pat Hill said:
"The bottom line is we're 1-3. I think we do have a good team, but we need to win. We're very young. We're playing hard. In a lot of ways we're playing some good football in phases but not consistently. You've got to play at a very, very high level throughout the game with consistency, and we haven't been able to do that. Any small miscue can be magnified when playing good competition." (MN)
