"Every time we're in a store and he sees something UH, he says, 'Daddy.' Or when he sees something green, he says, 'Daddy.' He associates everything green and UH with his father." (HA)
HA Note: "Santos, who is a full-time student, and Taimane attend every football practice on the Manoa campus. That means awakening at 4:45 a.m. to leave their house at 5:30."
Santos said that when 2-year-old Taimane and she arrives on campus:
"we park, and I sleep next to him in the car until he gets up. I get in the back, change his clothes and diaper, and unpack his breakfast." (HA)
About Taimane watching his practices, Purcell said:
"I play for my son. Before, he wasn't old enough to understand what I do. But now he's 2, and he knows what football is." (HA)
HA Note: "During practices, Taimane often will get into a three-point stance. After practice, he will play catch with his father."
About Taimane, Purcell said:
"He's going to be a good football player when he grows up. And he's going to play for UH." (HA)
HA Note: "Purcell's cousins are former Warriors Melila Purcell III, Amani Purcell, Samson Satele, Larry Sauafea and Nate Ilaoa."
About his cousins that had great success at UH, Purcell said:
"It used to push me to be better, to be like them. There's a lot of pressure on me, but I try not to focus on the pressure. I focus on my technique, and being violent on the field, and making plays." (HA)
About being UH's starting left end, Purcell said:
"I see my son playing while I'm practicing, and it really motivates me. I want to start. I want my son to be proud of me when he grows up." (HA)
About Central Arkansas playing UH, UH Wahine volleyball player Cat Fowler (who graduated from Conway High School) said:
"It's so awesome. It's really exciting just to have a team from the South come out. I went to a few of their football games (growing up) but we were more Razorback fans since my dad (Steve) played basketball for Arkansas. Central Arkansas is definitely part of the community (pop. 60,000). I'm really excited. I'm definitely going to go to the game. I couldn't believe it when they announced that Central Arkansas was coming out here." (HSB)
Happy with how their D is communicating, Mac said:
"I thought the communication on defense was as good as it's been all camp. Communication is a demonstration of knowing what you're doing, and if they're communicating like that they know exactly what they're doing." (HSB)
About how they only have a light walk-through today as their last practice before tomorrow's game, Mac said:
"We've gone through everything. We just did a 2-minute drill, we've been in every situation. The guys are good and spirited." (HSB)
