Feature stories on Warrior RBs Alex Green and Chizzy Dimude

About how Alex Green blocks well, DE Elliott Purcell said:
"He blocked me the first time. He's patient. Most of the running backs are aggressive. They lunge. He sits back, observes the block and holds his ground." (HA)

About how he didn't have to block when he was at his JC, Green said:
"In junior college, I usually had linemen blocking for me because I had the ball all of the time. It's different to block for other guys, but it's fun at the same time. I want to help my team. If that's what it takes, I'll do it." (HA)

HA Note: "Green is 6 feet 2 and 220 pounds; Dimude is 5-9 and 195 pounds. Both offer different blocking styles."

About his blocking technique, Green said:
"I work my hands on (a pass-rusher's) chest. I try to stay low, keep my pad level, then explode through with the block." (HA)

About his blocking technique, Chizzy Dimude said:
"I'm a cut-blocker. In practice, we can't cut-block our teammates. But during games, it should be a lot better." (HA)

HA Note: "Green spent part of the summer training with a friend who plays for Washington State. Dimude focused on the so-called "explosive" lifts. He can squat 460 pounds and clean 305 pounds."

About his conditioning, Dimude said:
"Here, we run every day, so I'm in shape." (HA)

About how he looked up information on Chizzy Dimude after he committed to UH, Alex Green said:
"I saw his highlight tape on YouTube. He was good, so I've got to step it up." (HSB)

About how he's comfortable with running but needs to learn more about blocking, Dimude said:
"The running, I feel like it's natural. You see the hole, you hit the hole. Blocking-wise I've got to get used to everything, get used to the schemes." (HSB)

HSB Note: "Dimude and Green have been working behind seniors Leon Wright-Jackson, Inoke Funaki and Jayson Rego, the most proficient blocker of the group, so far in camp. Both were productive runners in junior college, offering big-play potential from the backfield. Dimude ran for 700 yards and 11 touchdowns at Laney College last season, while Green led Butte College to an undefeated season with 1,037 yards and 14 scores."

Praising Green and Dimude, RB coach Brian Smith said:
"I've been impressed with both Alex and Chizzy. I compare them with Leon as far as being a similar style of back. They have a lot of the same attributes. Some of the fundamentals have to get better, more on the protection side than running. They're both accomplished running backs, but they can both get a lot better in their protection." (HSB)

HSB Note: "A bruise on Green's right knee kept him out of practice for two days, but he returned to the competition yesterday wearing a brace. Funaki stayed out of contact drills to rest an ailing shoulder."

About how his knee reacted during practice, Green said:
"(His knee) hurt a little at first, but after I started rolling it started feeling good." (HSB)

About how their are opportunities for RBs to make big plays due to the defense concentrating on the pass, Green said:
"It is different, but at the same time you don't see the same defenses you see in the I formation. You might have one or two linebackers and you can make one move and you can have a 50 or 60-yard run instead of a 4- or 5-yard gain." (HSB)
