BSU's D talks about their success in the UH game
AO = Arbiter Online (Boise State's student paper)
About UH's success on offense last year, safety Jeron Johnson said:
“Four receivers went for over 100 yards last year. We had to come out and make a statement." (AO)
AO Note: "However, this time it was a different story. The 495 yards passing by Brennan. History. Forty passes completed. Yesterday’s news."
AO Note: "A statement made to the tune of seven sacks and five interceptions. Instead BSU almost executed the Warriors’ quarterback Inoke Funaki. He seemed to be a tackling dummy for the Broncos all evening."
About the pressure they were able to apply with their pass rush, DE Mike Williams said:
“If you can pressure the quarterback any time and get in his head and get him rattled and have him wondering where you’re at instead of wondering down the field, it’s going to help." (AO)
About their success on D, coach Chris Petersen said:
“To hold everyone to 7 points - it would definitely take a lot of stress off of a lot of people." (AO)
AO Note: "A deep defensive line made room for multiple players, getting the most out of their team. This allowed for eight players to record credited participation for sacks on the onslaught of Hawai’i’s offense."
About their depth on the DL and hope their reserves performed just like their starters, Williams said:
“You can just watch it ... You know you can count on them to do exactly the same thing you do when they come out. It’s great, you know … Having fresh legs is good for us as a d-line.” (AO)
About how he wrote "play maker" in his eye black during the UH game, CB Brandyn Thompson said:
“I think that if you are thinking about them [plays] then you’ll make them." (AO)
About how they used freshman LB Dan Paul at FB, Petersen said:
“There is no question that [Paul] can play there. He may be a two-way player. We’ll see how it goes. I think we’ll always have a roll on offense for him from here on out.” (AO)
