KGMB recruiting report
About their speedy recruiting after he was hired, Mack said:
"I would say, 85 to 90 percent of everybody on here is from the past 3 weeks." (KGMB)
KGMB Note: "Mcmackin made it a priority to keep island players. Nine of his 21 signees are from the state of Hawaii. The new head coach made personal calls and home visits to convince them offering his loyalty for theirs."
About how he could tell this recruiting class that he'll be at UH for their career there, Mack said:
"I can honestly say I'll be with them for the rest of their career here at the University of Hawaii. That's what I'm planning on doing. That means a lot to those guys cause were going to be together." (KGMB)
About how they went after WRs and how that will help their special teams, Mack said:
"We really emphasized speed. We signed five JC receivers who are all 4-4 and below. They're all returners also so it's going to help our special teams." (KGMB)
KGMB Note: "While Tyler Graunke returns to take over where Colt Brennan left off. Mcmackin says no position is guaranteed. By bringing in two of the top junior college quarterbacks in the country, the plan is to play them sooner rather than later. He says Brent Rausch reminds him a lot of Brennan, mobile and accuarte. Greg Alexander threw for over 3,800 yards and 43 touchdowns last year. Defensively he was just as concerned at finding defensive backs picking up seven more."
About how DBs are the foundation of their D, Mack said:
"We want corners, if they get bigger we'll move them to safety. When the safeties get bigger we want them to move to linebacker. When the linebackers get bigger were going to move them to defensive end and if they get bigger we'll move them to tackle." (KGMB)
