Update on JJ's situation
HA Note: "June Jones has told his friends he has resigned as UH head football coach, close friend Al Souza said. Souza said Jones broke down in tears as he mulled his decision last night."
About JJ deciding to leave UH, Souza said:
"He cried like a baby. He doesn't want to leave." (HA)
"This breaks his heart." (HA, AP)
HA Note: "But Souza said each item on a long list of Jones' requests for his staff and program was rejected, leading to Jones' emotional decision."
HA Note: "Agent Leigh Steinberg said there is a slight chance Jones will reconsider. Steinberg said Jones was moved by e-mails and calls he received from fans."
About how JJ is leaving due to frustration with UH's athletic department, Kent Untermann said:
"He wants to be here but he has come to the point where he feels nothing is going to change. He feels he has done his part but hasn't gotten the support and leadership from the administration." (AP)
In JJ's letter to HF, JJ wrote:
"It's been very hard the last few days thinking about the decision to leave a place that I love greatly...but you I have talked many times about things that have concerned me…none of those things that concerned me were addressed in this offer...
...it would have meant a lot to me…had this offer come after the bowl game last year or even before the season…or had it come to me as late as the Washington game it would have said to me...'thanks June for a job well done'...
...there would have been no negotiating...I probably would have signed it and never let it get to this point...
Hawaii will always have my heart and that is why this is so hard for me...but just the fact I am going to get n that plane to Dallas...says it all...
...I do not want to go…believe me...but it is time to go...Mahalo June." (KGMB9)
KGMB9 Note: "We also talked to some UH coaches today and they all seemed surprised in the fact that this was happening so quickly, so fast. But were not surprised that June is so unsettled in a lot of things that were mentioned within the letter, issues that he had with Herman Frasier that were not addressed over nine years. He mentions an exchange of e-mails with Frasier that we have not obtained that facilities, coaches receiving raises and other things that needed to be addressed with the university that had not been taken care of."
