HF is gone

About HF's buyout, Rep. Takai said:
"What's happening today doesn't surprise me." (KHON)

KHON Note: "After losing Jones, Frazier's out -- a $312,510 buyout -- one year and 90 days worth of pay to walk away. Some say it's money well spent."

About how the buyout will save them money in the end, Takai said:
"I think the cost of not doing something and not selecting the right people to lead us will cost more than worrying about costs at this point." (KHON)

KHON Note: "Sources say Frazier was asked to resign outright, and they looked at firing for cause, but the potential legal fight reminiscent of the university's ouster of former president Evan Dobelle led to this settlement. Terminating Frazier without cause means money for the departed and a few more hoops, like regent approval no sooner than 6 days from now."

About the buyout, Takai said:
"It's going to take a little bit more time, and I think a little bit more stress on not only the public, but also on the university." (KHON)

About how they want to move quickly to get a new coach, Takayama said:
"We think that what's important now is that we build on the momentum that's been created by the success of this past season and we think this agreement will enable us to do that." (KHON)

About how UH went to a BCS bowl and lost its coach and AD, Takai said:
"I don't think there's any Division 1-A school in the nation that is so successful on the one hand but loses its head football coach and now will lose its athletics director. It's a comedy of errors." (KHON)

About an AD's role, McClain said:
"You produce, you get your coaches contracted in a timely fashion." (HSB)
