Looking forward to a meaningful game vs. UH, Fresno State coach Pat Hill said:
"We've got a big, big challenge ahead, no doubt. But you know, I like the way we're performing. We've won five of our last six games. We're in position where it's a big game. That's all you can ask for, playing in November and have the games mean something." (Fresno Bee)
About coming off a bye week, Colt said:
"The bye is going to help us more than hurt us. The only thing negative is just 'Are you in that game mentality week in, week out?' Like you're in during the regular part of the season. I think we'll be fine." (FB)
Utah State coach Brent Guy, whose Aggies lost 52-37 at Hawaii last month, said Fresno State could match up well with the Warriors.
About how Fresno State could match up well with UH, Utah State coach Brent Guy said:
"Because they can run the football, that'll be the key. I've always said the only way to really stop Hawaii is to keep their offense off the field. Get them out of rhythm ... make them go three-and-out, and possess the football. Our goal down there was to hold onto the football as long as we could. I think Fresno State has the type of running game that they can do that." (FB)
FB Note: "Fresno State ranks No. 24 in the nation at an average of 197.22 yards rushing. But if Mathews can't play, and running back Lonyae Miller also doesn't return (he's missed the past two games), the Bulldogs' ground game isn't as methodical or explosive."
About how they need to control field position and keep the ball away from the UH offense, Hill said:
"It's got to be a game for us of controlling field position, controlling clock time, and getting [Hawaii] off the field on third downs. We can't give up the big plays and we've got to convert our third downs and keep drives alive. This is going to be a great test for us going to Hawaii. It's all business." (FB)
