Quotes from Greg Salas

About how he was unsure whether or not he'd be on the offensive or defensive side of the ball when he walked into the locker room for the first day of UH practice last year, Greg Salas said:
"I wasn't sure what I was playing, but I had a feeling it might be offense. Hawaii is such a great offense that my thought process (when being recruited) was that if I do play, this would be a great place to play receiver at." (HSB)

Note: Salas was primarily a DB in high school.

About how it took him all fall to get comfortable in the offense, Salas said:
"Just making the right reads on your coverages because that's what the offense is based off of. It's just a matter of knowing your alignments and stuff and then getting out here and doing it." (HSB)

Salas was homesick last year, so he spent the summer at home in Chino training and spending time with famliy and friends. He returned to UH understanding the playbook and has stood out in practice. However, he's behind Jason Rivers in the depth chart, so he talked about having to adjust to not being the man like he was in high school:
"You know, you're used to being the man and then you come here and everyone is equal. Here, everybody is as good as you and it's just who wants it more." (HSB)

WR coach Ron Lee said that the key for Salas is consistency:
"The thing with him right now is that he'll make a big catch and then he'll disappear for the next few plays. It's something all the young kids go through and he'll get better at it." (HSB)
